D&T BBQ won first place in the Best Food at the Fair competition at the 2024 Northwest Montana Fair & Rodeo.

Chefs Andy Blanton, Michaella Evert and Josh Rutherford along with students and graduates from the Culinary Institute of Montana at Flathead Valley Community College served as the judges and spent several hours sampling entrees, desserts, beverages and more.

D&T BBQ’s pulled pork with spicy slaw and sweet barbecue sauce made a winning impression on the judges.

In second place was Porteus BBQ and third place went to Scandinavian Baking Company.

The judges appreciated Porteus BBQ’s pork nachos with house-made barbecue sauce and fresh coleslaw. Scandinavian Baking Company’s meatballs, sauces and baked goodies were noted for their authenticity and ties to long-held family recipes.

“We spent the day sampling lots of delicious savory and sweet items,” Rutherford said. “I am impressed by the variety of fresh, house-made sides. There is something to suit everyone’s fancy here.”

The Northwest Montana Fair & Rodeo is happening through Sunday, Aug. 18 at the Flathead County Fairgrounds. For more information about the events planned, visit www.nwmtfair.com.
