Search and rescue efforts are underway for a climber who has gone missing near Heavens Peak in Glacier National Park.

Park officials said they planned to release details about the search on Wednesday.

Heavens Peak reaches 8,991 feet of elevation and is located in the middle of Glacier National Park. Like most summits in the park, the route is off trail and involves bushwhacking.

Most of the other search and rescue efforts undertaken in the park this summer have occurred on water.

On July 6, 26-year-old Siddhant Vitthal Patil from India was presumed dead after falling into Avalanche Creek. After several weeks of searching, his body emerged in the creek on Aug. 3.

Also on July 6, a 28-year-old male from Nepal was swimming with friends in Sprague Creek near the campground and picnic area. According to friends, he was an inexperienced swimmer. He was about 30 yards out when he started to struggle, went underwater, and never resurfaced. His body was later recovered about 30 yards from the shore.
