Joan Stupack, 98

| August 22, 2024 12:00 AM

One of five children, Joan Stupack, 98, was born in Kensington, Connecticut, on July 12, 1926. Her parents were Ukrainian immigrants who met after they came to America. Her marriage in 1948 to the love of her life Henry brought forth three children, Joyce, James, and David. Her little David passed away from leukemia at three years old. Joan and Henry moved to Montana in 1983 to be with their children who had already moved West.

After Henry’s passing in 1992, Joan’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the focus of her world. She loved her family fiercely and there was always a place at her table for not only them, but her many friends and neighbors as well. She passionately cooked a weekly dinner every Tuesday night right up until weeks of her passing.

She worked at the FVCC bookstore and was active at Stillwater Free Lutheran Church with the quilters and the Primetimers, maintaining her strong faith all her life, talking with Jesus every night.

She loved hot coffee and hot french fries, singing Christmas carols, watching Wheel of Fortune and playing Mexican Train. Always feisty and full of gusto she drove, mowed the lawn, and shoveled snow right into her 90’s and never let anyone do anything in her kitchen. She was best described by her husband Henry, "That Joanie, she’s a pip!"

Joanie left this earthly life on Aug. 9, 2024, to be with "little David" and "her Henry."  She died peacefully in her home, surrounded by loving family.

She is survived by her two children, seven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at Stillwater Free Lutheran Church, 1401 Church Dr., Kalispell, with a luncheon to follow. Arrangements are under the care of Johnson Funeral Home.
