Flathead County restricts traffic on Blankenship Bridge

| August 23, 2024 12:00 AM

Flathead County has placed a weight limit on the Blankenship Bridge.

A routine inspection by the Montana Department of Transportation found the need to restrict vehicle traffic as the bridge cannot continue to support vehicles over 5 tons “safely or reliably in its current condition.” The inspection identified a need for further evaluation of bridge conditions, county officials said in a press release.

The bridge is 4 miles northwest of Coram on Blakenship Road. The restrictions began Aug. 21 and temporary weight limit signs have been posted at the bridge.

County officials say they are working with MDT to identify and evaluate options to repair the bridge and expect more information to be shared in the next few weeks regarding the bridge.
