First snowfall of season to hit Glacier Park
The high terrain of Northwest Montana could see its first taste of winter Wednesday.
A winter weather advisory was issued Tuesday for Glacier National Park and the Seeley Swan area. Locations above 5,000 feet have a good chance of picking up 3 to 6 inches of snow.
That would include Logan Pass on Glacier Park's Going-to-the-Sun Road. People visiting the park were advised to be prepare for raw conditions.
The weather advisory is in place through Wednesday evening.
The Flathead Valley will see steady rain Wednesday and overnight lows in the 30s.
Gusting winds were expected prior to the arrival of the cold front. Red flag conditions were possible for parts of Southwest Montana where existing fires could spread, the National Weather Service in Missoula warned. Gusts of 45 mph were possible in the Bitterroot Valley.
A pleasant stretch of weather follows the winter blast as temperatures climb into the 80s in the Flathead Valley. Labor Day should be sunny and warm.
