Intoxication, speed suspected in fatal crash near Bigfork
Alcohol, drugs and speed are all suspected factors in a head-on crash that killed a Kalispell man Sunday evening near Bigfork.
The crash occurred at about 5 p.m., on Montana 83 near the intersection with Echo Lake Road, according to a Montana Highway Patrol incident report issued Monday.
A 41-year-old Corvallis man driving a Ford F150 southbound allegedly attempted to pass a vehicle in a no-passing zone when the truck collided with a northbound Toyota Rav4 with three occupants. The pickup rolled, landed on its roof, slid down the highway then caught fire.
The 33-year-old passenger in the Rav4 died after being partially ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt.
The 33-year-old woman driving the Rav4 and another 15-year-old passenger were injured. Both are from Kalispell.
A F150 driver and a 30-year-old woman from Somers riding in the pickup were injured and transported to Logan Health Medical Center.
Road conditions were listed as dry.
