Audrey Treweek Savage, 89

| December 4, 2024 12:00 AM

Audrey Treweek Savage of Kalispell, passed away peacefully on Nov. 18, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith.

Born on April 17, 1935, she was the daughter of William and Kathleen (Sweeney) Treweek. She was raised on her family’s grain and potato farm, where she developed a deep appreciation for the beauty of the land and a special bond with animals, especially her horses and dogs.

Growing up in the Flathead Valley, Audrey attended Pine Grove School and in 1953, graduated from Flathead High School. Riding horses, skiing the slopes, playing piano and singing in a capella groups were her favorite pastimes. Throughout the years, Audrey continued to share her beautiful soprano voice at weddings, funerals, church services and other special gatherings.

Her love for children and interest in education led her to the University of Montana where she earned her degree in elementary education and early childhood development. She enjoyed friendships with her sisters of the Alpha Phi Sorority.

Audrey and her husband, Richard "Dick" Savage, met in civics class at the age of 14. Nine years later, they were married at the First Presbyterian Church and spent 45 years devoted to each other in sickness and in health. Their journey together took them to Sun Valley, Idaho and then to Spokane and Seattle, Washington, before returning to Kalispell in 1969 to continue raising their children, Dan and Karen. Her nurturing resilience provided her family with a strong, enduring foundation.

Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to helping people of all ages. She worked as a third-grade elementary school teacher at Evergreen School, taught a kindergarten class for two years in her home, assisted in childcare at the Smith Memorial Day Care and was an in- home caregiver with Council on Aging for 15 years. She also volunteered to help young readers in the school system and sang and played the piano for elders at assisted living centers. Some of her fondest memories were in her later years caring for a few family friends’ daughters.

Audrey had a gift of seeing the beauty in life’s simplicities - whether it was the laughter of children, the companionship of animals, or the simple joy of a sunny day. Her life was a testament to faith, humility and love, and her gentle spirit touched all who knew her.

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Savage; sister, K. Phyllis Kirk-Parker (Bobby); sister-in-law, Marge Treweek; nephew, Randall Treweek; niece, Tamara Treweek; and her brothers-in-law, Frank (Helen), Gene, George (Ann), and Ralph.

She is survived by her son, Daniel Savage (Sally Hash); daughter, Karen Savage (Andrew Bricker); brother, Jim Treweek; cousins, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Our family greatly appreciated the caring support from Wel-Life Assisted Living staff and friends, Logan Health Hospice and the friends from Epworth Methodist Church.

A celebration of Audrey’s life will be held at the Epworth Methodist Church on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at noon with a reception to follow. Gifts may be made to the Wel-Life Assisted Living staff, or Smith Memorial Daycare at Epworth Methodist Church.
