Opening reception set for Reflections exhibit featuring artist Lael Gray
Phillips Gallery brings painter Lael Gray's Reflections exhibit to Kalispell with an opening reception planned Dec. 6.
Gray, a visual artist, violin teacher and entrepreneur, exemplifies a Modern Impressionist's perspective on familiar landscapes in her paintings.
“The word ‘reflections’ first brings to mind, the reflections in a body of water. Winter can be a time of inner reflection and contemplations about life. Quiet moments allow images from the past, present and future to enter my mind,” Gray said. “The quiet and wonder of Yellowstone in winter observing animals in their habitat is of great interest. Cross-country skiing in the quiet of winter studying a half-frozen stream with its gorgeous blues and greens of ice and water. I have past reflections of Pike Street market where farmers come with their fresh vegetables to be taken home for dinner along with the fresh fish market. Walking in autumn or painting the autumn reflections on the middle fork in Glacier fill my being.”
Gray got into art at a young age. Her mother taught after-school art classes and there were always art materials around the house to encourage creativity. Gray majored in design with a minor in art at the University of California Davis and went on to open T-shirt shops in Kalispell and Whitefish. She later studied with Joe Abbrecia from Kalispell and Kevin MacPherson at the Scottsdale Artist School and the Tucson Art Academy.
Gray enjoys oils, oil pastels, acrylics, watercolors and silk painting.
The public is invited to attend the opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m. At 5:30 pm, Gray will provide commentary on her work.
The exhibit will be on display until Dec. 23 at Phillips Gallery located inside the Kalispell Center Mall, 20 N. Main St.
