Whitefish, Polson, Browning boys win at Tip-Off

FRENCHTOWN — Whitefish dialed it up from the 3-point arc Friday, winning its season opener 71-33 over Corvallis at the Western A Tip-off tournament.

The Bulldogs, Polson Pirates and Browning Indians were the Northwest A teams to win their out-of-conference matches Friday; the tournament continues Saturday. 

Here’s a rundown: 


Whitefish 71, Corvallis 33

Carson Gulick hit three 3-pointers and scored 18 of his 20 points by halftime for Whitefish, which built a 39-11 lead at the intermission. 

Teammate Will Sisson hit six 3-pointers, and was fouled an other attempt. He sank all three free throws and had a game-high 21 points.

Browning 58, Butte Central 50

Tristan Crawford scored 18 points for Browning, and Noah Butterfly added 10 for the Indians. Ryan Peoples scores 14 points to lead the Maroons.

Polson 57, Stevensville 31

Malakai Curley scored 16 points to lead four Polson Pirates in double figures. He and Jesse Vaile (12 points) each hit two 3-pointers. Cody Haggard was credited with 14 points and Holden Emerson came in at 12.

Dillon 55, Bigfork 51

Bigfork’s Austin Savik poured in 33 points, including three 3-pointers and 13 points in the Vikings’ fourth-quarter rally that fell just short. Savik hit four 3-pointers overall.

Loyola 64, Columbia Falls 45

Easton Brooks scored 17 points for Columbia Falls, but the two-time defending State B champion Missoula Loyola Rams got 44 points combined from Reynolds Johnston and Ethan Stack.

Canaan Magness poured in 27 points for Hamilton, which surged out to a 49-42 lead after three quarters and held on. 

Laurance Lozeau’s four 3-pointers and 19 points led Ronan.
