Richard Weber, 89 and James Weber, 81

| December 15, 2024 12:00 AM

The Weber brothers, Richard, 89 and James, 81, passed away in July of 2024. Richard on July 21, and James on July 18. They lived on a small ranch in the Thompson River Valley west of Marion for over 40 years. They raised cattle and for a number of years elk commercially. James was a graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in mechanical engineering working for Lockheed and Boeing before moving to Montana. Richard was a machinist by trade. The brothers were both Navy veterans.

I write this obituary as they were next-door neighbors and friends. The Weber’s were private people. They were never married and have no known relatives. Hard workers, they built a new log home, barn, and shop after they moved to the ranch. They were very self-reliant, always figuring out a way to do things themselves. In 2017 a fire destroyed their shop, vehicles, and 90% of their farm equipment. While they worked to recover from the devastating loss, their level of enthusiasm was never the same.

James would display his wicked sense of humor as you got to know him and was always enjoyable to visit with. They had a number of motorcycles with Richard taking many of them apart, then not getting them put back together again.

Dogs were an important part of their lives, joining them from shelters. The dogs found a loving and caring home with their own recliner in the living room. A last request was to take care of their dog.

My wife and I truly miss them. Interment will take place in Conrad Memorial Cemetery next to their mother Eleanor. A remembrance gathering will be held at a later date.
