Vonda McCubbins

Vonda Fairchild McCubbins was born at home on April 28, 1931, to Walter and Grace Fairchild in Max, Nebraska. Vonda was the fourth of seven children. Her family moved from Nebraska for employment, and eventually settled in Walla Walla, Washington. 

After graduating from high school, Vonda met Byron McCubbins on a blind date. Byron and Vonda were married Feb. 28, 1950. Vonda worked at Birds Eye Plant and the Bon Marche while in Walla Walla. In 1959 Byron and Vonda moved to Missoula and in 1962 to Kalispell. Together they owned and operated Byron's Heating & Sheet Metal until Byron's passing Feb. 15, 1986. 

She was an avid antiques collector, and in 1986 opened The Bazaar Antique Shop in Kalispell. After 20 years as a business owner, Vonda sold The Bazaar and moved to Columbia Falls, to be closer to her sons. She continued to buy and sell antiques and travel throughout the northwest to attend antique shows. 

Vonda kept busy with her many hobbies which included painting, she was an exceptional artist. She was active in the Moose Lodge where she was the editor of the newsletter as well as Columbia Falls Senior Center; Red Hats Society; her bible study group and volunteering at the Columbia Falls Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center. 

Vonda was named Kalispell Chamber of Commerce "Businesswoman of the Year in 1983." 

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; four sisters; loving spouse, Byron; and her son, Charles.

She is survived by brother, Larry (Barbara); children, Kimberly Beck (John), Floyd (Connie), Deana Lechner (Al), and Rahni Juelfs; son-in-law, Bernie Juelfs; daughter-in-law, Micki McCubbins; 12 grandchildren, Charles, Rachel, Patrick, Bryan, Heather, Salinda, Justin, Angelique, Rick, Nick, Elizabeth, Jonathan, and their families; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. 

Vonda was a very special lady and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Rest in peace our sweet lady. 

Funeral services to he held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, at the Buffalo Hill Funeral Home; with interment to follow at Conrad Cemetery; and luncheon reception after at the Moose Lodge in Evergreen.
