Girls Hoops: Borgen, Wildkats quell Ronan comeback

RONAN — Taryn Borgen scored 17 points for Columbia Falls, which withstood a second-half comeback by the Ronan Maidens for a 44-42 Northwest A girls basketball win Tuesday.

Hope McAtee added 10 points for the Wildkats — she hit two 3-pointers in the first quarter and two big buckets in the fourth. Maddie Moultray hit six free throws and scored eight of her nine points in the fourth quarter as well.

Maddie Illig led a balanced Ronan attack with 13 points; she scored 10 after halftime and finished with three 3-pointers. Zailee Hewwkorn added eight for the Maidens.

POLSON — Hamilton’s Ashlynn McKern scored 21 points and the Broncs rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Polson in girls basketball.

Julia Barnard scored 18 points for Polson, which hit four 3-pointers — two by Natalie Adams — in a 23-point third quarter that put the Pirates in front 44-39. Adams finished with 10 points. The Broncs prevailed despite shooting 2 of 8 at the line down the stretch.
