Konig, Lady Griz rout Weber State
OGDEN, Utah — Mack Konig’s 16 points led six Montana players in double figures Monday, and the Lady Griz scored an easy 87-55 win at Weber State in Big Sky Conference women’s basketball.
Konig was 4-for-7 from the arc and added five assists, and Maggie Espenmiller-McGraw was 4-for-9 from distance for Montana (12-5 overall, 4-2 in Big Sky games), which hit 16 of 37 3-pointers as a team.
Macey Huard added 15 points, Carmen Gfeller 14, Gina Marxen 13, Espenmiller-McGraw 12 and Dani Bartsch 11 for Montana. Bartsch also grabbed nine rebounds.
Weber State (6-14, 3-4) led 17-11 after a Daryn Hickok layup at 1:49 of the first quarter before the Lady Griz took command. Espenmiller-McGraw’s three cut the gap to 17-16 to close the quarter, and Marxen’s 3-pointer at 8:27 of the second quarter gave UM the lead for good, 19-17.
With the score 23-21, Montana tore off 11 straight points, including back-to-back threes by Konig.
After Weber hit a pair of free throws at the 2:01 mark, the Lady Griz got an MJ Bruno layup and an old-fashioned three-point play from Gfeller to lead 39-23 at half.
Hickok led Weber with 13 points.
Lady Griz are home Thursday to play Portland state on Robin Selvig Court.
