Ex-Griz McDowell

commits to Temple

Clifton McDowell, the Montana Grizzlies’ quarterback who entered the NCAA transfer portal shortly after leading them to the FCS title game, announced Monday he has committed to Temple.

He announced his commitment via social media.

The Philadelphia school will be the second FBS stop and fifth college overall for McDowell, who began his career with two seasons at Louisiana, formerly Louisiana-Lafayette; he transferred to UM from Central Arkansas, where he earned a degree in Psychology.

Montana went 10-1 in McDowell’s starts, earning him Big Sky Conference newcomer of the year honors. The loss came to South Dakota State 23-3 in the Division I Football Championship.

Temple is coming off a 3-9 season, including a 1-7 mark in the American Athletic Conference. The Owls’ 2023 starting quarterback, EJ Warner, threw for 3.076 yards as a sophomore and then transferred to Rice University.

Their 2024 season begins Aug. 31 with a game at Oklahoma.
