Judy Collins, Toad the Wet Sprocket and Los Lobos set to perform in Kalispell
July will bring a heatwave of nostalgia to the Wachholz College Center with Judy Collins, Toad the Wet Sprocket and Los Lobos on stage.
Singer-songwriter Judy Collins graces the stage with her timeless songs and storytelling at 7:30 p.m. July 24. Known for her eclectic tastes and enduring artistry, Collins is known for her sublime vocals, vulnerable songwriting, personal life triumphs and a commitment to social and environmental activism since the 1960s.
The award-winning singer-songwriter is esteemed for her imaginative interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk standards and her own poetically poignant original compositions. Her stunning rendition of Joni Mitchell's “Both Sides Now” from her landmark 1967 album, “Wildflowers,” has been entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Collins’ dreamy and sweetly intimate version of “Send in the Clowns,” a ballad written by Stephen Sondheim for the Broadway musical, “A Little Night Music,” won Song of the Year at the 1975 Grammy Awards. She’s garnered several top-10 hits gold- and platinum-selling albums.
Recently, contemporary and classic artists such as Rufus Wainwright, Shawn Colvin, Dolly Parton, Joan Baez, and Leonard Cohen honored her legacy with the album “Born to the Breed: A Tribute to Judy Collins.”
On July 25, 90s band Toad the Wet Sprocket is set to play their unique blend of alternative rock and folk. With hits like “Walk on the Ocean” and "All I Want," this concert is a must-see for fans and newcomers alike.
Founding members Glen Phillips, Todd Nichols, and Dean Dinning mark a new milestone this year with the 30th anniversary of the 1994 platinum-selling album “Dulcinea.” After the success of “fear” (1991) the band re-teamed with producer Gavin MacKillop to record an album inspired by the sound that they had developed from their recent touring. Released in 1994, “Dulcinea” was certified platinum by the RIAA, and both singles “Fall Down” and “Something’s Always Wrong” charted on the Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock charts.
The band will celebrate “Dulcinea” throughout the year on tour performing many songs from the album live. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m.
The legendary Los Lobos stops in Kalispell on its 50th Anniversary Tour at 7:30 p.m. July 26.
The Grammy Award-winning band will showcase their rich musical heritage, blending rock, blues, and traditional Mexican sounds into a dynamic and exhilarating performance.
Reaching the Billboard Hot 100 with their rendition of Ritchie Valens’ “La Bamba,” the band went on to solidify their status as one of the most influential bands recording 17 studio albums, seven live LPs, three compilations and two EPs, in addition to more than 40 guest contributors on friends’ recordings.
Still made up of original members, David Hidalgo, Louie Pérez, Jr., Cesar Rosas, Conrad Lozano and Steve Berlin, the prolific band has received the American Latino Media Arts Ritchie Valens Pioneer Award, National Education Association and Hispanic Heritage Foundation honors, Congressional recognition and in 2018, was inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame.
