Kalispell Public Schools school board of trustees is seeking a candidate to fill a vacancy in the high school district representing Marion, Olney-Bissell, Pleasant Valley, Smith Valley and West Valley.

Board member Krista Buls, who was elected to a three-year term in 2023, has resigned. School district officials did not immediately provide Buls’ resignation letter to the Daily Inter Lake.

The appointed trustee will serve until the next regular school election in May 2025.

To be eligible a candidate must be a registered voter residing in one of the towns listed. Prospective trustees should be able to serve impartially without conflicts of interest.

Being a trustee is a volunteer position. Trustees are responsible for making decisions that affect how schools operate. Duties cover a broad range of responsibilities such as setting goals, adopting policies and budgets, managing the collective bargaining process, serving on committees and holding schools accountable.

Qualified people interested in serving as a trustee may submit a letter of interest to Chris Campbell, district director of business services and clerk by July 30 at the central office, 233 First Ave. E., Kalispell, MT 59901. Campbell may also be reached by email at

Interviews will be held Aug. 6 with a recommendation presented to the school board Aug. 13.
