Amerman, Kroger help Twins sweep Bucs
FLORENCE — Strong pitching and Nolan Amerman’s big day at the plate led to a Class A Legion doubleheader for the Glacier Twins Tuesday, 5-3 and 4-3 over the Bitterroot Bucs.
Amerman hit a triple in both games but was especially tough on the Bucs in the opener, going 3-for-3. His RBI single sparked a two-run first inning for the Twins (19-5); then he doubled and scored on Matthew Mitts’ RBI single in the third for a 4-0 lead.
Amerman’s triple came in the seventh inning, when he scored an insurance run on Maddox Muller’s RBI groundout. Jake McIntyre also tripled, driving in a run in the second.
Kellen Kroger threw a three-hit complete game, allowing two walks and one earned run in seven innings, with eight strikeouts.
Mason Arlington hit a double and Jake Roth had a triple for the Bucs (22-11).
In the second game Muller and Dawson Juntunen combined on a six-hitter, with Muller giving up one walk and two earned runs in four innings. He fanned four.
Juntunen threw three shutout innings, with three hits and three strikeouts. That allowed the Twins to score the tying run in the fifth — Kroger doubled and came around on an error and wild pitch — and the go-ahead run in the sixth inning.
Muller scored the game-winner, hitting a leadoff double in the sixth and coming in on Trenton Derosa’s single.
