Crews attack small fires on Flathead Reservation
Four small fires burning on the Flathead Reservation garnered a hefty response from regional firefighters on Friday as the fire danger moved to "extreme" status.
The 15-acres Haymaker Fire is burning southeast of Polson on the Mission Mountains. Flathead Hotshots responded to the lightning-caused incident, with support from single engine air tankers and a Type II helicopter. No structures were threatened.
The Mill Pocket Fire 20 west of Elmo was sized at 15 acres on Friday with a crew of 24 firefighters, two dozers and a Skidgen working the incident. No structures were threatened.
The Sullivan Fire 8 miles northeast of Hot Springs was 50 acres. An air attack and four single engine air tankers was scheduled Friday. No structures are threatened.
The 19-acre Garceau Fire is 17 miles west of Polson, burning in timber and grass with downed fuel. This fire was 95% contained as of Friday.
Stage 2 fire restrictions are in place on the reservation.
