Sherry Baker, 82

| June 12, 2024 12:00 AM

Sherry Lee Baker, 82 of Kalispell, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, after a long battle with congestive heart failure.

She was born in Havre on Nov. 7, 1941, to Virginia “Jennie” Turner and Odin “Dean” Blockhus of Big Sandy. She was the consummate hostess, always eager to share food and drink with family and friends. She enjoyed all manner of social occasions from holidays and birthdays to the Whitefish Winter Carnival and a spirited game of Farkle with the gals. Her love of animals was well-known. She was constantly filling her bird feeders and always had a cat or dog as a companion.  As a young woman, Sherry was quite the equestrian, with a special fondness for Tennessee Walkers. Professionally, Sherry started out as a medical secretary at Columbus Hospital in Great Falls, worked at the Browning water department, and East Glacier Park School as the school secretary. After moving back to the Flathead, she worked at Budget Finance as the assistant manager and ended up at Three Rivers Bank as a loan officer, where she eventually retired. She was active with the Heritage Club and spent many of her later years as a volunteer with the Red Cross.

She is survived by her son, Rob Baker and his wife, Kirstin Murray-Baker of Belgrade, and her grandsons, Ryan Baker and Justin Baker. She is also survived by a close group of extended family and friends from around the Flathead and beyond.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia “Jennie” Turner-Cowan; her father, Odin “Dean” Blockhus; her stepfather, Richard “Dick” Cowan; and her brother, Richard “Rick” Cowan.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home is caring for the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to your local Red Cross.
