Joan Marie Ulrich, 87

Joan Marie Ulrich, 87, passed away Oct. 19, 2023, in Kalispell. She was born May 9, 1936, to Lois Walker Wieder and Jack E. Wieder.

She married John A. Ulrich on Aug. 29, 1954, in Grangeville, Idaho.

She is survived by four children, Janet Ulrich of Kalispell; Jeanne and (Hiram) Griffin of Nashville, Georgia; Joyce and (Vern) Schild of Rozet, Wyoming; Judy and (Ed) Holthouse of Kalispell; as well as 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

She worked for a short time at Smith Memorial Day Care in Kalispell, was a homemaker, and was an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church (UMC) and Gila Mountain UMC. She also sang in the church choirs. She was a leader of the youth group at Epworth UMC. She was an active member of United Methodist Women and served as president and other offices. She and her husband John were members of the Montana Tree Farm Association and celebrated 50 years in the organization.

She was an avid reader, gardener, baker, and Christmas tree flocker. Family and religion were very important to her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Ulrich; mother, Lois A. Weider; and father, Jack E. Weider.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on June 22, at Epworth United Methodist Church in Kalispell, with a reception to follow at the church. Memorials can be donated to Epworth UMC's Building Fund, or Gila Mountain UMC.
