William 'Bill' Secord, 81

| June 23, 2024 12:00 AM

William "Bill" "Uncie" Secord, was born to Albert Napoleon and Pearl McCauley Secord in Whitefish on Feb. 27, 1943, and passed away June 11, 2024, in Cheney, Washington. He was the fourth of five boys raised in Columbia Falls. He raised two sons with Karel, David and Kevin.

He began a beautiful partnership with Barbara on June 27, 1987. The two modeled a loving, respectful marriage, based on teamwork, and moved to Elk, Washington in 1999, where Bill kept an impeccable yard — like his dad taught him. There, he raised roses, horses and his beloved dog, Katie.

Bill completed a truck driving career which stretched over a million miles—with no citations—to 48 states and Alaska, in areas of logging, tankers, and over-the-road long hauling. He loved to fly fish, ice fish, four-wheel, camp, hunt, and genuinely visit with anyone he met. His love for the woods started as a boy in Montana and continued into retirement when he and Barbara volunteered as Camp Hosts at McGillivray campground. His other love, horses and horsemanship, led him to participate in trail riding, team penning and Gentlemen on Horseback.  He never missed a chance to put a child on a horse!

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Pearl; brothers, Albert Junior, Jack, Leonard and Gary; and grandson, Curtis.

He is survived by his beloved Barb; stepsons, Bart Bennett of Liberty Lake, Washington, and David Secord of Twin Falls, Idaho; son, Kevin Secord, of Mead, Washington; along with five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, he loved as his own.

At Bill's request, no services are planned at this time. For those who enjoyed Bill's love of barbecuing and bonfires—especially on New Year's, horses and dogs, the Flathead and forests; enjoy a genuine conversation with your friends—or a stranger—in his honor.
