Konig leads Lady Griz over Idaho State
POCATELLO, Idaho — Halle Wright’s layup at the buzzer was no good and the Lady Griz escaped with a road win over Idaho State 67-65 to wrap up the Big Sky Conference regular season Monday.
Maggie Espenmiller-Mcgraw added 15 points for the Lady Griz (21-8, 15-3 in Big Sky Conference games). Carmen Gfeller checked in with 10 points.
Sophia Covello scored 19 points to lead the Bengals (11-18, 7-11 BSC), Maria Dias added 13. Laura Bello chipped in 12.
After an even start Montana found their footing late in the first half taking a 17-8 lead on a Gina Marxen 3-pointer with two minutes left in the quarter.
Idaho State answered in the second, taking the lead 22-19 after a Covello layup capped off an 11-0 run for the Bengals.
After a tightly contested third quarter Montana jumped out in the fourth to a 65-56 lead midway through the fourth. The Bengals battled back but Wright’s layup to force overtime was no good as time expired.
Montana now heads into the Big Sky tournament Mar. 9-13 as the No. 3 seed. They will play Idaho in the quarterfinals on Mar. 11.
