| March 6, 2024 12:00 AM

Steven (Steve) Drake, 79, passed away Feb. 22, 2024, at home after four years of health issues.

He was born Nov. 3, 1944, at Artesia, California, to John and Nadine (Smith) Drake.

He grew up in the Phoenix, Arizona area. In the 70's he moved to Montana. When he came to the hill at Polson and saw Flathead Lake, he knew this was the place he wanted to spent the rest of his life. The Flathead had everything he wanted, outdoor living which was hunting and the number one thing was fishing. His favorite Lake was Flathead or Whitefish Lake depending on where the fish where biting. He found the perfect job operating/owning a clipper. He was good at it and worked with several loggers. He liked to get off the clipper, lean against a tree, listen to the quiet peaceful surroundings, and watch the animals.

This last year he really enjoyed watching the deer, turkeys, bear and fox come through the yard from his recliner. He was thankful to be able to stay home with the help and support of his partner caregiver, Sue.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and son-in-law, Doug Gelvick.

He is survived by his partner of 40+ years, Susan Perrine; daughters, Betty Drake and Trina Gelvick of Kalispell; son, Randy Morse of Arizona; brothers, Jim, Terry, and John; sisters, Frances, Margie and Margret of Arizona; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren.

Per his wishes there will not be a funeral or memorial service.

In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to: Flathead Wildlife, P.O. Box 4, Kalispell, Montana 59903, or flathead wildlife.org; non-profit which gives little kids the chance to start fishing.

Also The Humane Society of the NW Montana, P.O. Box 221 Kalispell, Montana 59903. He enjoyed our kitty's as he called them.
