Workshops help prepare for story concert submission
The creators behind Flathead Story Concerts are hosting online workshops to assist those who would like to participate in future live story-telling events.
Glen and Barbara Schiffman are holding a free “Crafting a Tellable Story” workshop on March 12 from 7-9 p.m.
They curated three live spoken word events with multiple tellers last year and are planning similar events for May and September this year at Sacred Waters Brewing Company. The free live spoken word events are themed and curated, and are not open mics.
Flathead Story Concerts are like "The Moth Radio Hour" or PBS-TV's "Stories from the Stage." True personal stories, flash fiction, novel or memoir excerpts are shared live by the locals who lived or created them.
"Some of our most memorable stories were from non-writer Flathead residents who bravely shared their personal experiences live with story fans!" said Glenn Schiffman.
During the online workshop, the Schiffmans will present their four-part structure for creating tellable 6 to 8 minute stories. They will also cover submission guidelines and help brainstorm story ideas that fit the 2024 story concert themes “All in the Family” or “Firsts and Lasts.”
Reservations in the workshop are required. More online workshops will be offered April through August. Get info and register to attend at https://flatheadstoryconcerts.wootick.com.
Flathead Story Concerts are co-sponsored by Authors of the Flathead and The Bookshelf in Kalispell, plus Sacred Waters and other local supporters.
Residents of Flathead Valley are invited to submit new tellable stories even if they don't attend the free online workshops. There are no submission fees.
