Daniell Douglas Henderson, 79

| March 13, 2024 12:00 AM

Daniell Douglas Henderson, 79, passed away on March 7, 2024, at with his constant companion, Lisa, at his side.

Dan was born on Feb. 21, 1945, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, to Douglas and Betty (Sparks) Henderson. The family lived at the Marine base for the first few years of his life before his parents relocated to California.

He attended Catholic grade and secondary schools graduating from Claremont High School in 1963. In high school Dan participated in track and field setting a new cross country course record in his senior year. This passion for running enabled Dan (later in life) to win the China Wall 10K race for his age group, May 2008. During his parochial school years, he met lifelong friends Steve Clark, Frank Powers Bob Ryan, and later Terry Voisen. Together the "Altar Boys" created many memories with Altar Boy Reunions each year.

After high school, Dan graduated from University of Nevada, Reno and Thunderbird College-Phoenix, Arizona, with a degree in International Business. During a "break" from college, Dan went on a solo worldwide adventure traveling to numerous countries. Each country was a source of amazement to him and to the locals when they encountered a tall, lanky young man from the other side of the world. This experience sparked a wanderlust in Dan that lasted his lifetime.

While attending UNR, Dan met and married Annelise (Lise) Lenz in 1970. They welcomed two sons, Clayton (1974) and Collin (1976). Leaving the city life behind, they headed to Montana for life on a ranch, and Dan became a realtor/broker in Bozeman, and later in Kalispell, owning a branch of Realty Executives. Dan loved the real estate business and was very successful throughout his career. He loved the mountains of Montana where he hiked, hunted, rode horses, mountain biking, back country camped, and telemark skied with friends. Dan also had a true love for the water which enabled him to own various "big" boats and boat houses in Seattle, WA, and Portland, Oregon. He was always game for a "boat show" regardless of its location.

After retirement, Dan yearned to be back in Nevada, relocating to Reno in 2015. He found Reno had changed since his college days, but he still enjoyed his mountain activities. He also enjoyed traveling to see his sons and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

He is survived by his sons, Clayton and Amy Henderson, Chloe, Chiara, and Caleb of Delaware, Ohio, and Collin Henderson and Chrissy Hanson, Sloan of Portland, Oregon; his longtime companion Lisa Freiborg; and his treasured Altar Boy friends, Steve, Frank, Bob, and Terry along with many others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Henderson, Betty and Marty Johnston; and infant daughter, Gracie Sara Henderson.

Services will be held at Carmel of Reno on March 18, at 2 p.m.

Funeral Arrangements handled by Walton's Funerals and Cremation in Reno, Nevada.
