Kalispell voters approve public safety levy

Kalispell voters on Tuesday approved a public safety levy that will raise an estimated $4.6 million in its first year for emergency services. 

According to preliminary results posted Tuesday night by the Flathead County Election Department, which oversaw the mail-in election, 3,367 ballots were cast in favor of authorizing the city to raise 60.9 mills for Kalispell's Police and Fire departments while 2,485 voters passed on the proposal. 

The levy is expected to add $369 annually to the tax bill of a home valued at $450,000, according to city documents.
