HELENA — An understrength Glacier High track and field team was swept in its season-opening dual at Helena Capital on Friday.

The Bruins won the boys’ dual 75-61 and the girls’ dual 74-48, but the meet wasn’t without some Glacier highlights.

Owen Thiel won the 3,200 by over a minute in 10:52.35 and was narrowly second in the 1,600 to teammate Jack Syverson, who ran a PR of 4:50.9.

Other boys winners were Shae Warner in the 400 (53.26) and Cooper Pelc in the triple jump (41-3).

For the girls, Madison Terry (400), Dacie Benkelman (800) and Sophie Ryan (33 feet, 11 inches to win the shot put) all won events, and Breanna Barnes won twice: She claimed the 100-meter hurdles and the pole vault. Barnes cleared 10-0 in the pole vault.
