Karl George Borchers, 86

Karl George Borchers, age 86, passed away on April 17, 2024, at Kalispell Rehabilitation and Nursing, in Kalispell.

Karl was born on Feb. 28, 1938, in Missoula to George and Florence Borchers. Karl and his sister Adrienne Gue were raised on a dairy farm in Frenchtown. In 1960, Karl married Kathleen Louise (O’Neill) Borchers in Roundup. They were married for 63 years.

Karl attended Missoula County High School and graduated in 1955. He moved forward with attending the University of Montana, graduating in 1959. There, he became a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and achieved a bachelor's degree in accounting.

After one year as an accountant, Karl joined the Internal Revenue Service in 1961. He spent 36 years as an estate and gift tax examiner in Great Falls. He worked with rancher and farmer estates across the state.

Karl was president and chairman of the Great Falls Government Employees Credit Union (now Russell Country FCU) for 35 years; he was president and board member of Grouse Mountain Homeowners Association for over 20 years; and he was also a member of the Appraisal Institute from 1982 to 2000.

Karl visited 32 countries during his world travels. While living in Great Falls, Karl built stone walls and fences around their house and tended to a large garden. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, camping, and was a lifetime Montana Grizzlies fan, holding a season ticket every year for more than 30 years. In 1997 Karl retired, and he and Kathy moved to Whitefish.

He is preceded in death by his father George Borchers, mother Florence Borchers, and sister Adrienne Gue.
He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen Louise (O’Neill) Borchers; son Mark of Denver, Colorado; son Timothy (Leonara) of New York City, New York; son Todd (Tracy) of Great Falls; son Daniel (Heidi) of Lake Forest Park, Washington; son Sean (Dawn) of Kalispell; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Cremation has taken place. No services have been planned at this time. A family memorial is upcoming later this summer.
