Flathead County honored for its budget

| May 12, 2024 12:00 AM

Flathead County has received the Government Finance Officers Association Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its budget.

This marks the 16th consecutive year the county has earned the award.

It reflects the commitment and dedicated commitment of financial standards of elected officials and department heads to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting, according to the county. To achieve recognition, the county budget has to meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. Budget documents undergo evaluation across four categories: policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications device, encompassing 14 mandatory criteria within those categories.

Commissioner Randy Brodehl said the quality of leadership demonstrated by the county finance team is remarkable.

“I see their unwavering commitment to responsibly managing our community's resources every single day,” he said. “Receiving this award is a clear validation  of their ongoing dedication and commitment to excellence.”

There are over 1,700 participants in the Budget Awards Program. The most recent Budget Award recipients, along with their corresponding budget documents, are posted quarterly on GFOA's website. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
