A warm place

As the story goes, there was no room in the inn, so they were led to a warm place to escape the frigid night of winter.

Ah, that was long ago, this is modern times in Kalispell. The powers have closed the Warming Center, the new neighbors are offended.

I do wonder who owns the large cluster of apartments near by. Are they closed to people whose journey has gone awry?

Sidewalk trouble

I’m writing in concern of Kalispell’s horrendous sidewalks with heaves and cracks. I was trick or treating with my grandson and his friends and I almost tripped and fell four different times, let alone the times my feet hooked on these uneven slabs. One little girl with us fell so hard and really hurt herself. I saw several children fall and some tripping and losing their treats.

I thought about elderly using these sidewalks and how dangerous this could be for them. I realize it had gotten dark, but there’s no excuse for those uneven slabs and heaves in the Fifth Avenue East area.

Get it fixed before someone gets hurt badly.

Purple 47

I am writing this on Veteran’s Day and thought it very fitting because this is the day we honor our great veterans. Through blood, sweat and tears, they have kept our country free.

As a veteran myself, I can relate to the hard days of training we endured with that one purpose driving us on. That purpose was to defend this great nation we call home.

The elections are over, that is behind us. Now is the time to get onboard and support our elected officials as one unified group of Americans. To do that I propose we display a purple 47 on our cars and in our yards.

Why a purple 47? Take the blue of Democrats and the red of Republicans, mix them together, unite them and you get purple. The 47 is for the 47th presidency, the next administration.

Now is the time to cast our differences and emotions aside, be as one nation and show you are for a United States. Let’s make this next four years a time of reconciling our differences, working together to build a strong and prosperous nation and once again we can be that shining city on a hill.

Display your purple 47 to show you are for a United States of America.

— Chris Zarcone, Kalispell

Government that works

I am expressing thanks to the Flathead County roads department for their quick response to an email I sent regarding a deep pothole on our road. I sent the email on Thursday and the deep pothole and another smaller one were filled in on Friday.

A small example of government working. Thank you.
