David R. Larson, 76

| November 13, 2024 12:00 AM

With full hearts, the family of David Rees Larson announces his peaceful passing on Nov. 7, 2024, at the age of 76. He was born to Hollister and Betty Jean Larson in Kalispell. David was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, and he leaves behind a trail of laughter, adventure, and memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.

He grew up with a love for the outdoors, animals, and a strong work ethic that set the foundation for his life’s many successes. David’s greatest pleasure was being outdoors and was his happiest when he had a chainsaw, fishing pole or rifle in his hands. Whether he was catching record setting fish, cutting firewood, or stalking an elusive animal he treasured his time on the lake and in the woods and found peace in nature.  In his earlier days if he wasn’t hunting or fishing, he could be found behind the wheel of his prized 1955 candy apple red Chevy cruising around town.

David spent the majority of his career in the timber industry following family tradition. His many years as a sales manager helped him develop friendships from coast to coast that continued throughout his lifetime. In the later years of his career, he played an integral role in the creation of Glacier Gold Compost. His dedication to the project helped make Glacier Gold a thriving business and his entrepreneurial spirit will always be remembered by those who worked with him.

His love for his dog Jack was unmatched. They were constant companions on walks, quiet moments, and any other adventures they may happen upon. Their bond was truly special.

David had a bold and witty sense of humor. He could tell a joke or a story that would have you laughing until you couldn’t breathe. Whether he was around a campfire or at a family gathering his humor was enjoyed by all. His friendships were deep and long lasting, and he never missed a chance to make a new friend. He was always ready to lend a hand, offer advice or just listen. Dave had a special place in his heart for Bitterroot Lake. He spent countless hours fishing and cruising around the lake and dedicated many years serving as a board member of the lake association.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Michelle and his four children, Hollister, Kymberly, Jeffrey (Lisa), and Courtney Larson; grandchildren, Kiley, Ashley, Abigail, Audrey, Ayo and Simi; great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Arthur. He is also survived by brother, Thomas (Kathy) and nephew, Eric; sister, Holly Jean and niece, Tessa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hollister and Betty Jean Larson and sister-in-law, Jerri.

For those wishing to make a donation in David’s name the family suggests the Marion Volunteer Fire Department or the charity of their choice.

David’s family would like to thank the members of the Marion Volunteer Fire Department and all the amazing doctors and nurses at Logan Health for his exceptional care.

David will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him, and his memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service to celebrate David’s life will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, at Darlington Funeral Home, 3408 US Hwy 2 East, Kalispell, MT 59901.
