Letters to the editor Nov. 14

Won’t give up values

As I read the letters to the editor from those Republicans gloating over their recent victory and asking for unity, I must respond.

I for one will not give up my Christian values of honesty, decency and respect for my fellow man to support a man who is a convicted felon, a serial liar, a womanizer, a man who attempted to overthrow our government and whose policies led to the largest increase in the national deficit of any administration in history.

May God bless our country.

Oath of office

On Jan. 3, 2025 Rep. Ryan Zinke, Congressman-elect Troy Downing, Sen. Steve Daines and Senator-elect Tim Sheehy will take the following oath of office:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”

As our elected representatives, to act on our behalf in our democratic republic, you will “affirm” you “will bear true faith and allegiance” to “the Constitution of the United States.”

I remind you that you will not be affirming allegiance to any political party, nor person or persons in any appointed or elected office.

Please exercise your judgment and advocacy, speak on our behalf and cast your votes based solely on your allegiance to the U.S. Constitution.

Gerrymandering

Montanans did not willingly send 11 more Democrats to the Montana Legislature this year — they were forced to. The redistricting commission, made up of a majority of partisan Democrats, did not follow the law. The Democrat-majority redistricting commission:

• Created districts that aren’t sufficiently compact,

• Created districts that don’t comply with community-of-interest goals,

 Created districts with partisan intent.

That there are now 11 more Democrats in the Legislature is not a surprise. That the redistricting commission didn’t follow the law and purposefully gerrymandered districts so that Democrats would win more districts is a travesty of justice.

It is obvious after this election that Montana rejects the liberal mantra that is intent on taking away our hard-earned wages, our children and our constitutional rights.  As a Republican, I will continue to fight for the Montana that voted for our Montana way of life.
