Not in their house.

Flathead rallied from a set down twice and a 4-0 deficit in the final set to defeat their crosstown rivals in Volleyball Thursday evening.

The Bravettes (5-9 overall, 4-3 in Western AA games) pulled back a 9-2 deficit in set four and a 4-0 deficit in the shorter fifth set to claim the victory.

“We fought from the very beginning all the way through,” Flathead coach Emily Russell said. “We knew it was going to be a battle and we showed up ready to play tonight.”

Glacier (5-8, 4-3) started hot out of the gates, jumping up 8-1 in the first set and holding a seven-point lead midway through. Flathead closed the gap late though tying the set at 22 before the Wolfpack served up three straight points from Olivia Anderson — including the set winning ace, one of 17 in the match for Glacier.

Flathead jumped ahead early in set two though as an ace from Addison Thornsberry, one of four on the evening for her, helped the Bravettes to a 9-4 advantage. Later in the set another ace — this time from Zellah Boles, who had four on the evening — put Flathead up 20-17, an advantage they kept winning set two 25-21.

Set three was a back-and-forth affair with the Wolfpack jumping out in front 3-0. The teams traded the lead multiple times until the Wolfpack took a 16-15 advantage and held on for good taking the set 25-19.

In set four Glacier won nine of the first 11 points, including the first four to take a seven-point lead. Flathead slowly chipped into the advantage as an Emma Eve ace made it 10-6. Eve finished the night with a team-high 12 kills to go along with the ace.

“We just needed to be louder than them,” the senior middle blocker Eve said. “Do whatever we could to keep the ball up and in play to win the point.”

The Bravettes cut the deficit to three before the teams traded 10 straight points. After Glacier took a 20-16 lead, Flathead’s Emy O’Dell served up seven straight points to give the Bravettes the lead, they would take the set 25-23 and force the deciding set.

Stella Bayard started set five off with four points for the Wolfpack, but Flathead worked their way back into the set, taking an 8-6 lead bolstered by back-to-back aces from Hannah Cantrell.

Thornsberry added another ace in the set to put Flathead up 11-7, but Glacier fought back to tie it at 12 after two aces from Anderson.

A Bristol Lenz kill gave the Bravettes set point, and they converted for the 16-14 set win and the 3-2 victory in the match.

“Whenever we get down, we always know we can rely on our teammates to battle through any adversity we face,” Russell said. “We were just able to fight away at each point, we went back and served tough and were able to keep it going for the whole game.”

Both Flathead and Glacier are in action Saturday at their second East-West crossover of the season taking on Bozeman, Gallatin, CMR and Great Falls.
