Football: Whitefish outscores Bigfork
WHITEFISH — The Whitefish Bulldogs made a couple more big plays Friday, beating Bigfork 42-22 in their homecoming game behind three touchdowns from CJ Thew.
Thew — who shot 78 at the State A golf tournament earlier Friday — sandwiched two TD catches around a 98-yard return of the second-half kickoff. That return put the Bulldogs (3-3 overall, 3-2 in the Western A) up 21-6, and they were on their way.
Before that, he caught a 1-yard TD pass from Carson Gulick — set up by Gulick’s interception near the Whitefish goal line and 92-yard return to the Libby 6.
Riley Zetooney had 10 rushes for 134 yards for Whitefish, including a 56-yard scoring burst in the second quarter; Scotty Dalen hauled in a 41-yard TD pass from Gulick in a wild fourth quarter.
Before it ended, the Vikings’ Cole Schmit had scoring passes of 69 and 71 yards to Austin and Tamret Savik.
Tamret Savik also scored the first touchdown for Bigfork (4-2, 4-2), a 31-yard pass from Schmit.
Gulick ran 18 times for 101 yards and had a 3-yard scoring run. He was 11 of 20 passing for 116 yards and three scores.

BUTTE — Tristan Andersen threw for two touchdowns and ran for one, and Libby scored the last 18 points of the game to beat Butte Central in Western A football Friday.
Andersen’s 20-yard on third-and-goal put the Loggers up 31-30 in the fourth quarter, and Tristan Deshazer tacked on his second scoring run with 2:10 left in the game.
The Maroons, who had two long scoring passes from Ryan Peoples to Kelton Keane, drove to Libby’s 41-yard line but then sacks and an unsportsmanlike conduct flag stalled the drive.
The Loggers (2-4 overall and in league) got on the board first with a blocked punt that Drake Wofford scooped and scored on. Danny Waletzki added a field goal for Libby, but then Butte Central (3-3, 3-3) scored the game’s next 18 points.
A 58-yard Danny McCarthy run and Keane’s 15-yard TD catch had the Maroons up 30-24 but Libby roared back, starting with an 18-yard TD pass from Andersen to Ryan Beagle.
Joel Goodman caught Andersen’s first scoring pass, covering 27 yards.
