Two animals found shot and left to waste in Northwest Montana

Two animals were found shot and left to waste in Northwest Montana in recent weeks, state wildlife officials say.  

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks personnel on Oct. 4 responded to a report of a dead elk on private property off of the upper Thompson River Road. The head was removed and missing, according to the state wildlife agency. The rest of the animal was left behind to waste.  

Around the same time, likely between Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, a cow moose was shot and left to waste on Clark-Hinchwood Road near Plains.  

Authorities encourage anyone with information about either incident to go to tipmont.mt.gov. People can also reach out to a local game warden to provide details.  

Anyone with information about the elk should call 406-250-9498 and information on the cow moose can be shared at 406-240-2271.  

Anyone with information could be eligible for a cash reward up to $1,000.
