New nonprofit art studio hosts Fall Harvest Moon Fest
The Making Place is capping off its first season of events with a free family-friendly fall festival Harvest Moon Fest.
Harvest Moon Fest will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12 from noon-8 p.m. at 700 Mooring Road, Columbia Falls. This event will be a celebration of art, music, food and community in collaboration with the Montana Harvest Moon Homestead. The festival will feature artist booths, games and activities, artist demos such as pottery and screen printing, live music, an open mic, food, drinks and a raffle.
Conceived in October of last year, The Making Place is a new nonprofit organization taking a grassroots approach to developing a makerspace and community art studio in the Flathead Valley. With the support of local businesses and organizations, it has arranged several pop-up workshops, classes and events this season, from hide tanning to plein air painting.
“We see the need in our community for a third space, a public place where people can share their skills and practice their craft,” said board member and organizer Justin Barry.
As a new non-profit organization, The Making Place hopes to continue building community support and attain a physical location in the coming years.
