NO. 30736 Legal Notice   Proposed Partial Bond Release for Venture Stone, LLC (Hard Rock Mining Operating Permit No. 00189)   The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has received a request for bond release for Venture Stone, LLC (Venture Stone). Venture Stone is authorized to operate several rock product mining operations under Operating Permit No. 00189. The sites for which release is requested are surface rock picking operations located on private lands. Site 2 is located on Sections 13, 14, 15, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, and 29 of Township 18 North Range 3 East, approximately 15 miles south of the Town of Great Falls in Cascade County. Site 3 is located on Sections 20, 28, 29, 30, and 32 of Township 18 North and Range 4 East, approximately 14 miles south of Great Falls in Cascade County. Site 9 is located on Section 23 of Township 19 North and Range 2 East, approximately 4 miles southeast of the town of Ulm in Cascade County.   DEQ currently holds a reclamation bond in the amount of $377,460 for the permit. DEQ is proposing to release $9,327 and retain $368,133. The decrease in the bond amount is due to completion of reclamation performed by the operator on Sites 3, and 9, which includes reseeding and weed control on areas where product had been mined off of the ground surface, and release of indirect costs for previously released work on Site 2.   Pursuant to Section 82-4-338(5), Montana Code Annotated (MCA), DEQ may not release or decrease a reclamation bond until the public has been provided an opportunity for a hearing and a hearing has been held if requested. Requests for a hearing or comments on the proposed bond release must be submitted to DEQ by November 12, 2024, and sent to Millie Olsen, Hard Rock Mining Section Supervisor, Mining Bureau, Department of Environmental Quality, PO Box 200901, Helena, MT 59620-0901, by telephone at (406) 444-2461 or by e-mail at DEQHardRock@mt.gov. Information about the proposed bond release or copies of the bond calculation may be obtained by contacting Millie Olsen at (406) 444-2461 or DEQHardRock@mt.gov.
