The Wolfpack get their payback.
After a five-set classic in crosstown I, Glacier came out strong and downed Flathead in three sets to take crosstown volleyball match two Tuesday at Glacier High School.
“We were much more aggressive today than the last time that we played them,” Glacier coach Christy Harkins said. “We mixed up shots a little better and we definitely did a good job at the net. We touched a lot of balls.”
The aggression led to five blocks for the Wolfpack — Allie Krueger leading the way with three. The sophomore middle hitter added seven kills.
“Going up to block is the best feeling ever,” Krueger said. “We were really trying to get those big kills today and we were pressing really hard today.”
The win for Glacier (7-13 overall, 6-4 in Western AA) breaks a deadlock with Flathead (6-15, 5-5) in the Western AA standings.
“We felt like we really needed this win for our conference, so it really was a pump up for us,” Krueger said. “It feels great to have that energy and confidence that we have improved so much (since the last meeting), we just got better and better throughout the sets.”
The Wolfpack jumped out early in set one, with Krueger’s first block of the day putting them up 4-1.
Mistakes kept the Bravettes in the match though, as Glacier was called for three net violations in the first set alone, something that Harkins chalked up to crosstown jitters.
“We are going to call that the intensity of the game,” Harkins said laughing. “I think that was a record for us, the number of times we were in the net today.”
Sydnie Ryan gave Glacier some separation in set one with a five-point run serving, giving Glacier a 12-7 lead.
Flathead closed the gap back to one with an Emma Eve kill to make it 16-15.
Krueger and the Wolfpack wouldn’t be denied though, as she finished off the set with a kill through the Flathead block for a 25-21 win.
After a back and forth start to set two, Glacier pulled away in the middle of the set to lead 17-11.
After a tip from Mali Carroll went out, Flathead rallied back to tie the set a 19.
The teams traded points until Grace Lingle’s overpass couldn’t be handled by Flathead, giving Glacier the set 28-26.
Set three started with another net violation to the Wolfpack and Flathead taking a 4-3 lead. Kenedee Moore served Glacier to a 9-5 lead, forcing a Bravette timeout.
Anna Bain kept Flathead in it with a serving run to close the deficit to 11-9, but Glacier would not be denied.
Cassidy Daniels served an ace to make it 19-14 and facing match point Emy O’Dell couldn’t keep her serve in play as the Wolfpack earned the set 3 win 25-20.
