Lavella Emery Boylan, 95

| October 20, 2024 12:00 AM

Lavella Emery Boylan, 95, always enjoyed her life, especially the 53 years spent with her husband, Frank, who died on Nov. 1, 2005. Then some of her enjoyment died with him. But she still loved and enjoyed her three beautiful children, who were always there for her.

She was born on March 22, 1929, to Alex and Alice Emery in Ashtabula, Ohio. She was one of seven children and enjoyed her childhood with her siblings. She also enjoyed going to Edgewood School in Ashtabula, Ohio, where she graduated in 1947. She attended many reunions with her classmates throughout the years and enjoyed corresponding with them and keeping up with their lives. After graduating, she enjoyed working at the Carlisle Allen Dept. Store with her best friend Charlotte Allenbaugh (Pardee), a teller at the First Federal Savings and Loan, and secretary for the City Attorney Pat Sheldon, all in Ashtabula, Ohio. She met Frank Boylan in 1950 and they were married April 19, 1952. They honeymooned in Washington, D.C., toured the White House and shook hands with President Truman. Frank was a race car driver so Lavella and friends spent many nights going to the races.

In 1955 Lavella and Frank moved to Bigfork where Frank had hunted and always wanted to live. They lived at the Flathead Lake Lodge with Les and Dolores Averill until they found a house in Lakeside where their three children, Frank Jr., Justin and Betsy, were born. Lavella and Frank took flying lessons at Strand Aviation and enjoyed flying places in Montana and to Ohio. They moved to Kalispell in 1972, where Lavella lived until her death. Lavella had many jobs in Kalispell. The ones she enjoyed the most were Traffic Girl at KGEZ Radio, secretary for City Attorney Norbert Donahue, and secretary for Mike Kelly at Flathead Industries. She retired from there in 1994.

She always enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends and spending the holidays together. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, working on her computer, and walking with her husband and their dog. She enjoyed flying back to Ashtabula, Ohio, every summer to visit her family there, and flying to California to visit her daughter and son-in-law. She also enjoyed their visits to Kalispell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, Archie, Lorenzo, and David; her three sisters, Agnes, Lorent and Jessie; her husband Everett. Also her son-in-law, Rob Augustine.

She is survived by two sons, Frank and wife Nancy of Whitefish, Justin of Kalispell, and one daughter, Betsy Ann of Kalispell; her sister-in-law Betty Emery, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 27, at 1314 Fourth St. W., Kalispell.
