Larry Hanson, 88
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Larry Hanson. Born on Dec. 23, 1935, Larry transitioned peacefully on Oct. 17, 2024.
He leaves behind his loving family: wife Cathy Hanson, his late wife Barbara (Melum) Hanson, daughter Suzanne Hanson, stepdaughter Terri Jones, stepson Peter Jones and stepson Kevin Jones.
Larry was a man of distinct pursuits and accomplishments. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Engineering from Oregon State University in 1963. Prior to this, Larry served with pride and honor in the United States Air Force in 1954. In 1972, he embarked on a new chapter in his career, becoming an executive with the United States Postal Service, where he was highly regarded for his dedication and leadership.
A bon vivant, Larry was passionate about living life to the fullest. His love for the outdoors was unmatched; skiing, sailing, fishing, and photography were among his favorite recreational activities. He also had a particular fondness for hiking, savoring the tranquility it provided. His favorite vacation spot was Kintla Lake, in the heart of the serene Glacier Park.
Larry had a strong palate, his favorite food being steak accompanied by a glass of chardonnay. He was a staunch supporter of the Oregon State Beavers Football team, a testament to his love for the sport. Vibrant and exuberant, Larry's favorite color was orange, which exemplified his personality perfectly; strong, thoughtful, and determined.
Despite his personal achievements, Larry was a humble man who lived by the mantra of loving everyone. He cherished his time spent as an official ambassador of the Big Mountain Ski Resort, where he gracefully turned ski tracks in powder, marking one of his greatest accomplishments as an agent of goodwill on the hill. His best advice to others was about maintaining a healthy work-life balance, which he believed was key to a good quality of life.
Larry Hanson led an extraordinary life of purpose. A loving husband, a doting father, a steadfast friend, he will be missed immensely by all who knew him. His life well-lived leaves a legacy of love, strength, and determination for all to emulate.
