Allen Jimmerson exhibit captures the South Fork

The Great South Fork exhibit by award-winning artist Allen Jimmerson comes to Phillips Gallery.
Recognized as one of the leading wildlife painters in Montana, Jimmerson captures breathtaking western landscapes, enhancing their natural light to create an exquisite scene of the local mountains.
“I grew up in Columbia Falls, my hometown, mom and dad would take us kids up to Hungry Horse Reservoir fishing back in the ’60s and ’70s. This started my love for the South Fork. Fishing for Cutthroat and Mountain Whitefish. Then picking Huckleberries, cutting firewood and hunting elk. Great Northern Mountain was usually always in view. These places are a big part of my life. Being an artist, I always paint from my life’s experiences. So the paintings in this exhibit are the result of my time spent up The Great South Fork,” Jimmerson said.
Jimmerson’s paintings have been featured in “Bugle Magazine,” “Montana Outdoors,” “Bowhunters Magazine,” and appeared on the front covers of a “Rural Montana Magazine” and Cabela’s catalog. He has participated in several regional and national invitational art exhibitions including the CM Russell Art Show, Ellensburg Western Art Show, and Western Heritage Art Show, where he was awarded first place in acrylics. He is the featured artist of Plein Air Paint Out shows for the Hockaday Museum and Glacier National Park, his painting, “Heavy Shield,” was the officially chosen artwork for the Glacier National Park Centennial in 2010. In addition, Jimmerson was the selected artist for the 80th Anniversary of Glacier International Peace Park Assembly.
Jimmerson not only preserves Glacier Park’s landscapes through his paintings, but he also contributes to the preservation of wildlife, having donated thousands to charity auctions for the Safari Club, Mule Deer Foundation, Ducks Unlimited, Walleyes Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Montana Bowhunters Association, Montana Outdoor Legacy Foundation and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
