Phillips Gallery features work of Polson artist Bobbie Hafer
Classical oil paintings by Polson artist Bobbie Hafer will be featured in an exhibit at Phillips Gallery in Kalispell through Sept. 28.
As Hafer was preparing for this exhibit, titled Timeless Classics, she reflected on her passion for classical still-life oil paintings.
“The Classics, whether literature, art, or history form the bedrock of inspiration to our modern-day venues. I have always been drawn to things of beauty from past eras and use them today to inspire the artwork that I create,” Hafer said.
Hafer started painting full-time in retirement after leaving her husband’s medical practice in Great Falls, drawing inspiration from Charlie Russell. She credits Kalispell-based artist Mark Ogle for sparking her passion for painting with lessons in color theory and guidance through the years.
“As I study the arrangements and vessels used in my florals and still lifes, or the design and composition of my landscapes, paging through books of [my] favorite artist of the past always influences the direction I take,” Hafer said, later noting, “I always try to rely on the proven methods and designs of those who have gone before. Each painting I do is a new and exciting adventure for me, but by the time I finish it, I’m ready for the next adventure.”
Paintings in the exhibit will be available for purchase at Phillips Gallery located inside the Kalispell Center Mall 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.
