BIGFORK — Max Milton of Polson went low at Eagle Bend Golf Club Thursday, firing a 6-under 66 for boys medalist honors at the Steve Hullett Invitational golf tournament.

Meanwhile Whitefish’s Stella Jaffe gave Frenchtown star Katie Lewis a run and helped the Bulldogs claim the girls team title. The one-day meet  included most of the Western A teams.

Jaffe birdied No. 18 to shoot a 35 on what served as the front nine Thursday; she and Lewis traded leads a couple times from there before Lewis prevailed on the final hole. The two-time State A medalist shot 78 and Jaffe finished at 79.

With Karlee Brown (84, sixth), Ryhlee Scott (88, seventh) and Caroline Owens (95) also breaking 100, the Bulldogs won the tournament at 346 strokes. Frenchtown was second at 360. Bigfork, with Keni Wade tying for third at 83, was fourth.

Ten girls teams competed, though just five had full squads.

On the boys side Milton had four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 No. 10 Thursday, and shot 33 on both the front and back.

Corvallis golfer Brady Powell closed strong with a 32 on the back and had a 68, and his Blue Devils won the team title with a tight 300 score. Polson was next at 311 and Whitefish, led by Otto Klein’s 72, was third at 312.

Winslow Peters of Columbia Falls tied for sixth after shooting 73, alongside Josh Pender of Hamilton and Mason O’Neil of Whitefish.
