Eureka's Lytle scores 6 TDs in win
EUREKA — Eureka quarterback Rogan Lytle rushed for 144 yards and six touchdowns Friday, leading the Class B Lions to a 39-32 nonconference football win over Class A Whitefish.
The visiting Bulldogs, a playoff team a year ago, lost for the second straight time to the Class B power; last year’s score was 32-6.
This time Whitefish quarterback Carson Gulick threw for 312 yards and two touchdowns, completing 26 of 54 passes. Whitefish outgained the Lions 459-455, though Eureka piled up 313 yards on the ground.
Lytle threw for 142 yards, setting up two of his 1-yard scoring runs with long passes. One TD put Eureka up 32-22 at halftime; the other made it 39-25 on the first play of the fourth quarter. He completed 7 of 11 throws.
Gulick ran the ball in from 11 yards out to cut the gap to 39-32 with 3:25 left, but the Bulldogs couldn’t get the ball back from the Lions, who ran out the clock.
Gulick ran for 64 yards, and Riley Zetooney had 111 yards on nine carries, including a 78-yard touchdown burst that put Whitefish up 14-12 in the first quarter.
CJ Thew caught both of Gulick’s scoring passes and had seven catches for 128 yards. Scotty Dalen caught seven passes for 80 yards.
For Eureka Josh Lambertsen ran seven times for 72 yards and Haiden Johnson had nine carries for 82.

POLSON — Polson quarterback Holden Emerson ran for 161 yards and a touchdown and threw for another score as the Pirates topped Northwest A rival Libby Friday.
Behind Emerson, who had 27 carries, and Shaedon Perry, who gained 145 yards on 20 totals, the Pirates piled up 333 rushing yards. Perry and Daniel O’Roake had TD runs as well.
Emerson was 3 of 9 passing for 28 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown pass to Cason Graham.
Connor Benson scored Libby’s lone touchdown.

RONAN — Bigfork quarterback Cole Schmidt threw four touchdown passes, two each to Sammy Plummer and Austin Savik, and the Vikings outscored Ronan in Northwest A action Friday.
Schmidt completed 12 of 16 passes for 184 yards. Bigfork’s offense was balanced by Treker Hickey (114 rushing yards) and Plummer (89 yards), who each ran for a TD.
Plummer had four catches for 84 yards and Savik had three for 27.
Ronan hung in there with big plays, including a 78-yard kickoff return by Laurance Lozeau to open the third quarter. The Chiefs ran a reverse on the return, springing Lozeau, who added a 48-yard scoring run and hauled in in a 38-yard touchdown pass from Kolby Finley before the quarter was over.
Lozeau nearly had a one-handed grab of an 18-yard TD pass with 2:24 left in the game, but couldn’t get his feet down in the end zone. Ronan turned it over on downs on the next play.

BIGFORK — Sam Plummer ran 10 times for 171 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Vikings in their season opener.
Treker Hickey gained 95 yards on 11 carries with another score, and Cole Schmidt was 4 of 6 passing 93 yards and two TDs, one each to Austin Savik and Tamret Savik. The Vikings piled up 445 yards of offense, 352 on the ground, and held the Pirates to 123.
