Flathead Story Concerts features local storytellers

| September 12, 2024 12:00 AM

Eight people will share inspiring and amusing true experience stories and poems during the Flathead Story Concerts live event on Sept. 17.

The event runs from 6-7:30 p.m. at Sacred Waters Brewing. Seating opens at 5:30 p.m. No tickets are required but space is limited.

Flathead Story Concerts were inspired by The Moth Radio Hour and PBS-TV's "Stories From the Stage." This is the fourth curated and themed live event co-hosted at Sacred Waters Brewing by FSC creators and curators Barbara and Glenn Schiffman. Both are creative writers and story coaches who taught classes on Crafting a Tellable Story at Flathead Valley Community College in 2023 and online in 2024.

Themes for the Sept. 17 event are “All in the Family” and "Firsts and Lasts." Some of the invited tellers are new to FSC, but many participated in previous events and are back with new stories. They include Craig Naylor, Alan Solum, Mary Frances Erler, Robby Cale (poet), Joe Weber, Keith Liggett, Heidi Wolf, and Glenn Schiffman. Most are also members of Authors of the Flathead which is one of FSC's sponsors, along with The Bookshelf in Kalispell and Sacred Waters Brewing.

The Schiffmans will also be leading several free drop-in Spoken Word Storycrafting Workshops beginning on Sept. 23. The workshops are held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Whitefish Community Center, 121 E. Second St. More sessions are scheduled for the second and fourth Mondays in October and November.

No experience in writing or telling personal stories is required. Potential attendees can come to one or more or all sessions where they will learn a tellable story structure plus presentation tips for sharing their stories at holiday family gatherings and/or a spring 2025 Story Concert in Whitefish.
