Wolfpack girls win Crosstown on Senior night
Junior Karley Allen shined on offense and defense, accounting for all three scores, to help lead the Wolfpack girls to a 19-0 win against the Flathead Bravettes at Legends Stadium on a rainy Thursday night.
In the third annual Crosstown flag football event, seniors from each school were honored before kickoff with family members by their side.
While the sport is growing in Montana, Flathead and Glacier are the only two teams in the Kalispell area.
“There are two teams in this state that are playing flag football at a high-level and they’re both in Kalispell,” Glacier coach Mark Kessler said.
“Coach Lisa (Koehler) does an amazing job, her kids always play hard, things didn’t go their way tonight, but they are going to be right there the rest of the season,” Kessler said.
On a cold and rainy night, it took a great defensive play from senior Emma Pate to spark the Wolfpack offense.
Pate intercepted the ball and tacked on a 29-yard return, and three plays later quarterback Karley Allen found Alissa Schuman in the corner of the endzone to take a 7-0 lead.
On the very next drive, with Allen on the defense, she intercepted a pass and returned it to the 9-yard line to put the Wolfpack in a first-and-goal situation.
On the next play, she scrambled to her right and found Cadence Daniels in the back of the endzone, where she made an impressive leaping grab for the TD. The conversion was no good.
At halftime, the Bravettes put Julia Kay in at quarterback on the opening drive, but the rainy conditions made it hard to move the ball through the air.
Allen intercepted another pass and this time she would not be denied as she returned it for a touchdown to give the Wolfpack a 19-0 lead.
The Wolfpack defense was impressive all night as Breana Barns and Zeila Wagner had multiple pass breakups.
“We were getting pressure on the quarterback and with this being the first game with the rain, it makes you a little apprehensive,” Kessler said.
“I think we may be rushed her decisions because she killed us on those plays two weeks ago.”
The Bravettes bested the Wolfpack in a jamboree in August, when Flathead was victorious with an identical score of 19-0.
Norah Armstrong was a bright spot for the Bravettes, as she accounted for a sack and two tackles for loss.
Up next, Flathead, Glacier, Hamilton and Mission will play a seeding tournament in Hamilton Sept. 21, and all four teams head to the state tournament at Montana State University Sept. 26-27.
