AA soccer: Winkler hat trick lifts Glacier girls

Freshman Gracie Winkler scored a hat trick to lead Glacier over Helena Capital 4-1. The Capital boys beat Glacier 2-0.

Lucy Holloway, another freshman, scored the Pack’s second goal; assists went to seniors Emmery Schmidt and Amelia Remley and freshmen Bailey Dahlman and keeper Aerin Todd.
Glacier outshot the Bruins 19-4.
“We were really peppering them at the start,” Glacier coach Doug Mello said of the Bruins. “We finally got through. Winkler had a tap-in on a great pass by Remley.
Winkler scored once more in the first half, then answered a goal by Capital’s Taylor Lay with her third of the day, off a feed by Dahlman.
Mello was pleased with his team’s defense as well, singling out Rachel Brannan and sophomore Kylie Shine.
“We put Kylie Shine in the back as a central defender for the first time,” Mello said. “And we found another piece of the puzzle. She was all over the place. Very involved and very fast.”
Glacier, 2-0-1, plays at Helena High at 11 a.m. The boys play at 9.
