Law roundup: Parking lot party creates a ruckus
Kalispell Police Department responded to a report of about 15 to 30 teens allegedly causing a ruckus in a parking lot. The caller said the crowd was hollering and screaming and had a whole cart of beer brought over. Everyone reportedly cleared out and officers didn’t see any signs of alcohol.
A man reportedly got a phone call from a scammer with a southern accent who claimed they were a deputy and said he needed to bring $3,000 to a store or he would be arrested for “not showing up for jury duty.” Since the caller claimed to be a deputy, he asked to meet them at the sheriff’s office, which to no surprise, the scammer said, “No.” The man’s wife called the police thinking they could meet the suspect at the store. She was counseled.
Men in their late teens or early 20s in a green Toyota van or SUV allegedly followed and harassed a woman and her friend from Ninth Avenue West and Seventh Street West until they stopped at Second Avenue West. Officers provided a ride to their destination at a church.
People in Woodland Park reportedly chucked eggs at vehicles driving by. One driver whose vehicle was hit, called the police wanting officers to check the area for the bad eggs.
A Whitefish man called the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office when a neighbor came by alleging their brother showed up at their house, banging on the door, and then grabbed a machete and was trying to hit other family members in the home. The neighbor said his brother had been acting strangely over the week and talking about his dog a lot.
A woman calling from Columbia Falls reported she was a victim of identity theft involving $70,000.
A Kalispell man allegedly gave his account number to a fraudulent PayPal service and was concerned $18,000 had been stolen. A deputy called him back and the man said he recognized the fraud attempt and believed the transaction wasn’t completed. The deputy advised him on typical scams and advice on how to prevent future issues.
A man reportedly threw rocks at passing vehicles and a bicyclist in Kalispell.
