Changemaker Speaker series returns to the Wachholz

| September 19, 2024 12:00 AM

The Wachholz College Center presents the third season of Changemaker Speaker Series, a platform designed to enlighten, inspire, educate and entertain audiences.

The three-part series includes a line-up of speakers who have pushed the boundaries in their respective fields and whose work reveals fascinating insights about our planet, each other and what we can do to create a better future.

Each event will feature stunning imagery and riveting video footage. Following each presentation, there will be a question-and-answer session and a meet and greet.

Speaking on Oct.15 is futurist and author Jamie Metzl.

Metzl is one of the world’s leading technology and health care futurists and author of five books including the international bestseller “Hacking Darwin: Genetic Engineering and the Future of Humanity.” Just like the industrial revolution, the artificial intelligence revolution will transform almost every aspect of people's lives. In this far-reaching and highly practical talk, Metzl explores the big picture implications of this transformative moment in human history and what it means for all of us.

Taking the stage on Jan. 29, 2025, is adventure writer Kevin Fedarko.

Fedarko will share highlights of his 750-mile, 100-day trek through the entire length of the Grand Canyon, not “rim to rim” as has been tackled by many but “end to end,” with photographer and filmmaker Pete McBride. Through the story and stunning footage of their quest, Fedarko invites the audience to reflect on the health and future of this national treasure and the value of wild spaces. Get ready to see the Grand Canyon as you’ve never seen it before.

Acclaimed mountain climber Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner takes the stage March 11, 2025. Kaltenbrunner has climbed all 14 of the seminal 8,000-plus meter peaks, from Annapurna to Everest. After completing the most daunting and feared mountain, K2, in the remote Karakoram range in Asia, she became the first woman climber to do so without supplemental oxygen or porters. On stage she shares the highlights of a remarkable career and what it was like to be the first.

Tickets to each event range from $15 to $20 for seniors and $20 to $25 for adults. Students of all grade levels are free. Subscription packages to all three Changemaker speaker events are available starting at just $57.25. Tickets may be purchased online at wccmt.org or by calling 756-1400.
