Extensive road work on Montana 35 southeast of Creston begins Monday.

The 7-mile project begins about 1 mile southeast of Creston and ends about a half mile south of the Montana 35 junction with Montana 83.

Planned improvements include removing and repaving the top layer of asphalt, sealing cracks in the roadway shoulders, adding new pavement markings and signage, adding new centerline and shoulder rumble strips, and applying a chip seal.

Work is scheduled for 2024 and 2025 and is anticipated to be completed in fall 2025.

This year, crews will be crack sealing the roadway shoulders and installing new signage in the project area. Crews will return in 2025 to remove and replace asphalt in the driving lanes and chip seal the roadway.

When this project begins, motorists can expect to encounter single-lane traffic, flaggers or temporary signals controlling traffic, reduced speed limits and possible delays. Wide loads may be restricted at times. For current traffic conditions and up-to-date restrictions visit 511mt.net.

This section of highway was originally constructed in 1957, with the last major reconstruction taking place in 1996. Since then, it has only received minor repairs and maintenance.

The public is encouraged to contact Tyler Manning at Tyler@rbci.net or 406-545-0800 with questions or comments about the project. To sign up for text message updates, text CRESTON to 866-434-0866.
